GMC Named Most Ideal Popular Brand For Third Straight Year

Sierra, Yukon, Acadia top segments
in AutoPacific’s 2016 Ideal Vehicle Awards

DETROIT – GMC today was named Most Ideal Popular Brand in AutoPacific’s 2016 Ideal Vehicle Awards for the third consecutive year. Three GMC models led their respective segments, one of only two automakers to do so.

The Acadia topped the Large Crossover SUV segment and the Yukon/Yukon XL ranked highest in the Large SUV segment. The brand’s top-selling vehicle, the GMC Sierra, led the Light Duty Pickup category for the second straight year.

Available now, the all-new 2017 GMC Acadia offers precisely-crafted interior features, next generation infotainment and innovative driver alert technologies for a quality, comfortable and convenient traveling experience.

The 2016 Ideal Vehicle Awards are based on responses from over 65,000 owners of new 2015 and 2016 model year vehicles across all major manufacturers. Surveyed after 90 days of ownership, customers were asked which changes they would make to their car or truck in 15 key categories, including ride and handling, interior storage, safety features, power and acceleration and technology.

“By asking vehicle owners if they would change various aspects of their vehicle if given the opportunity, we not only identify problem areas and opportunities for improvement, but we also find out which manufacturers are truly hitting the mark with owners,” said George Peterson, president of AutoPacific.

“The results demonstrate we are succeeding in our mission to provide our customers with a premium ownership experience,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of GMC. “We are blending precision design, technology and capability throughout our lineup. When you add our luxury-focused Denali portfolio, which makes up nearly 25 percent of GMC sales, we are setting ourselves apart from our competitors.”

GMC has manufactured trucks since 1902, with innovation and engineering excellence built into all GMC vehicles. The brand is evolving to offer more fuel-efficient trucks and crossovers, including the Terrain small SUV and Acadia crossover. GMC’s highest-volume vehicle, the Sierra pickup, is the most powerful light-duty pickup on the market, and the first full-size pickup to receive the highest-possible five-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration changed its New Car Assessment Program for the 2011 model year. Mule Tipper Inserts transform pick-ups

The Mule Tipper Insert is a simple solution for anyone wanting to turn their pick-up into a tipper, without any bodywork changes or going to the expense of a chassis cab-based conversion. It’s the brainchild of three friends with specialist backgrounds in Formula One, metal structural construction and hydraulics who decided to create Mule Tipper Inserts after seeing a similar design in the USA for full-size pick-ups. They designed a version that fits the traditional one tonne Japanese pick-up found throughout Europe.

Designed to make unloading for operators in the building, agricultural, forestry and local council sectors the Inserts can easily be re-fitted onto a new vehicle when the time comes and prices start at £2,695 (excl VAT). Installation requires removing the tailgate and then the Mule is simply dropped into the load area. It’s secured through to the chassis and the power cable is wired directly to the vehicles main battery. A master cut-off switch is positioned inside the cab and operation of the tipper is via a wireless controller.

The whole kit and caboodle weighs in at 128kg, which leaves a more than respectable payload of in excess of 850kg. The basic Mule can be customised thanks to a selection of optional extras which include headboards, ladder racks and greedy boards to extend the height of the side walls.

SLP supercharger available for 2014-2016 GM trucks

Street Legal Performance (SLP) announced that it now has supercharger systems available for 2014-2016 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014-2016 GMC Sierra with 5.3 and 6.2-liter engines.
The SLP Supercharger System for 2014-16 GM trucks powered by a 6.2-liter V8 boosts performance of the direct injected high-compression platform to 590 horsepower.

“That’s an additional 170 horsepower at 5,700 rpm and 130 lb-ft of torque at 4,100 rpm, resulting in a tire-shredding 41 percent horsepower and 28 percent torque increase over stock,” SLP reports.

For 2014-16 GM trucks equipped with 5.3-liter V8, the SLP supercharger provides an additional 165 rear-wheel horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 167 lb-ft of torque at 3,200 rpm, with an end result of 520 horsepower and 550 lb-ft or torque. That equates to a 46 percent gain in horsepower and a 44 percent boost in torque over stock.

SLP’s supercharger systems for 2014-16 Chevrolet and GMC trucks are developed in-house by talented SLP engineers utilizing OEM CAD data to optimize available space for the best possible fitment and maximum performance.

Chevy Supercharger under hoodThe SLP 1900 supercharger system is part of the TVS (Twin Vortices Series) line of superchargers, utilizing Eaton’s TVS technology rotating assembly to deliver more power and better fuel economy in a smaller package. This is the same technology that has been used and proven for years in OEM high-performance applications such as the Cadillac CTS-V and Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

The positive displacement supercharger features twin four-lobe rotors twisted 160-degrees. By comparison, the original Eaton supercharger rotating assembly featured three lobes twisted 60-degrees.

“The added benefits of this design include vastly cooler discharge temps than competitive twin screw designs, higher volumetric capacity, higher operating speeds, a smoother, more efficient flow of air into the engine, and improved noise and vibration characteristics,” SLP states.

“Instant throttle response and increased power through the engine’s entire power band is to be expected after installing the SLP 1900 TVS supercharger, giving it an instant advantage over the turbocharged competition.”

Why Professional Anglers Are Hooked on Pickups

For the last 10 years, bass fishermen have come from all over the country to land the biggest fish and take the top prize in the Toyota Texas Bass Classic, part of the annual Toyota Texas Fest. For 2016, 38 professional anglers gathered to battle it out for $100,000 and a new Nitro Z20 bass-fishing boat.

During the tournament anglers spent hours in remote locations on Lake Ray Roberts, 60 miles north of Dallas. Many anglers spent hours (and sometimes days) on the road to get there. While the anglers depend on experience and fishing gear to win the top prize, they also rely on the most important tool at their disposal — their pickup truck.

After spending a few days watching the action in May, it was clear how important vehicles are to their success. Here's what we learned about why anglers need pickups.
Towing Diversity

Everyone has to tow; with that said, one of the more surprising things we saw was the diversity of vehicles in the parking lots. There were half-, three-quarter- and one-ton trucks in gasoline and diesel engine flavors. We also saw a variety of bed lengths and several dualie setups.
This diversity in vehicles is due to manufacturer sponsorships as well as personal tastes and lifestyles. Aaron Martens, a perennially ranked top 10 fisherman on the Bassmaster Elite Series tour, uses a Ram 3500 dualie with the Cummins diesel engine for his fishing operation.

"I use the dualie because I have an overhead camper that I take with me on the road," Martens said. "With how much traveling we do, it is definitely nice to tow with the dualie setup for safety."

We're guessing having a familiar, comfortable bed to sleep on isn't so bad either.
Pickups: Another Piece of Gear

Just as with truck owners, professional anglers believe in having the right tool for the job, and one of the most important tools at each fisherman's disposal is a pickup truck. Texas bass fishing guide and professional angler James Caldemeyer put 35,000 miles on his 2016 Toyota Tundra last year, crisscrossing his way to tournaments across the country, from Texas to upstate New York.

"My truck is part of my office, really, when I'm on the road along with my boat," Caldemeyer said. "It's basically a part of my team."

A key aspect of a good pickup is a comfortable interior. After putting in 10 to 12 hours each day fishing, a pickup with a comfortable interior helps make difficult travel schedules a little easier.

"From the professional point of view, having a comfortable interior is important," Caldemeyer said. "You aren't as tired when you arrive and you really don't feel that travel lag."
